Arts

We believe arts are fundamental to citizenship.  The arts expand our capacity to (re)imagine our circumstances and our world. Creativity and imagination are essential tools for any person–“citizen”–navigating through any challenge.

  • By celebrating free expression, the arts help us find out who we are and what we think and feel.
  • By inviting us to make clear choices, the arts strengthen our skills in democracy and self-governance.
  • By demanding commitment, the arts cultivate responsibility to one’s self, ensemble, and audience.
  • By challenging us to see and hear multiple voices and viewpoints, the arts enhance our capacity to understand and empathize with other people.
